All he could do was run. He couldn't have stopped himself if he tried. He was having too much fun.
Will was leading a run through the forest, his pack behind him, he in the lead, of course, considering he was the Alpha.
They were just common wolves, nothing special about them, except to Will. They couldn't take on the shape of a human like he could. But they didn't seem to mind. They were content in their animal innocence, and didn't even mind that he wasn't like them. They accepted him totally. They were his family. His only family, at this point.
Oh, he had his father, off in Ireland, probably partying his nights away. But his mother had been dead for years. He had really loved her. His dad.....well, his dad he wasn't so sure about. Oh, he cared for him, as a son should, though he could never really see himself as Kyle's son. His dad was only thirty-five, too young to have an eighteen-year old son. He still acted like a child, and he had no sense of responsibility.
But, enough! William drove his thoughts away from thoughts of his father, and of his past, and focused them on the current.....only to realize that he was in human form, and had been running like that for the past couple of minutes! That's what happened when he started thinking to hard about humanly concerns, he lost the wolf's mind and was pushed into the human's body. He had always had trouble thinking about his wolf side and his human side as one entity. He saw them as seperate, and that's what forced him into shifting when his other side's mind took over. But they were one, they were both William. That's why he was here. Most were here to learn to control and use their powers. Will was here to learn how to let go of control, to accept that his human side and his wolf side were one and the same. Once that happened, he would stop losing control of his shifts, and be able to think like a wolf in human form without involuntarily shifting his shape into a wolf, and vice versa.
With a sigh, he glanced around at the wolves surrounding him as he crouched on the forest floor as a naked human. They wagged their tails, meeting his eyes for only a second before looking away, as was the courtesy they showed to Alpha. He smiled and whined at them in reassurence before shifting back into his wolf form.
They all stood up, panting, eager to run some more, to hunt and feed. Will gladly obliged, letting the mind of the wolf consume him totally in it's instinctual needs.
They took down a doe awhile later. Will wasn't really all that hungry-- he had eaten a large helping of bacon and eggs earlier that morning-- but as the Alpha, he ate first. The others wouldn't eat until he'd had a few bites first, and they were hungry.
He ripped out a few chunks of bloody meat, then the others went to town, snapping and snarling over dominance amongst each other as they ate. He took a couple more bites, then trotted away to relax and watch in a patch of comfy clover a few feet away. Blood covered his snout and neck, but he didn't mind, he liked the scent of it, and he could always rinse off in the stream before finding some of the clothing he'd hidden all over the forest and going back to school.
The scent of his pack and the blood and venison was so overpowering he almost missed the other scents. He smelled someone nearby. A slightly familiar scent. Someone from school, though he couldn't quite place it. Will stood. He knew that if they stumbled upon the pack feeding, there would be trouble and danger for all, and they smelled close. A couple of his wolves lifted their heads, smelling it, too, and they looked toward the direction it was coming from. His beta-- who Will called Starunner, because she had a white, star-shaped marking on her right front paw-- stepped away from the meal and towards the forest, like she was going to investigate. Will snapped a bark at her, telling her he'd do it himself, and she averted her gaze and went back to her meal. Seeming quite disappointed; Starunner liked to get into mischief, and enjoyed a good fight.
Will took off at a run towards the smell, not knowing what he would do when he confronted whoever it was, just acting on instint.
